to know or not know pt. 2

I was just coming here to post about the new Homeland Security warnings, but it looks like Em beat me to it.
I honestly don’t know what to think about this. I guess it’s good that we know something might happen, but at the same time, I don’t think it’s good to give vague warnings. If they’re going to issue warnings at all, they should at least give the public something concrete to hang onto – either directions about what to do or a specific area to avoid. This is just going to make people worry more. The reason they gave for all the extra security, especially on the T, is because of potential terrorist attacks. I think that’s a good enough level warning for the general public. People know that something *could* happen, just like something *could* happen any day of the week. Now it’s just… I don’t know. Not pointless, exactly, but I don’t think it helps much.
Were I extremely cynical I might suggest that Homeland Security is doing this to scare people into voting for Bush. From what I’ve read and heard, there are a lot of Americans out there who believe in Bush as a leader, and this is only going to cement their belief in that. There are also many scared people out there who don’t want to change horses in the middle of a race – they may see Bush as tough on terror and Kerry as not so much. However, I am not that cynical. I don’t know what Homeland Security’s purpose is in issuing these warnings, expect maybe to caution people into being a little more observant and careful.

I guess I don’t know what THE POINT is and that is my issue with it. It is nice to let us know, but then, what are we supposed to do?? If something like 9/11 where to happen again (God forbid) – how can you PREPARE for that? I can’t walk around being afraid, and more importantly, I won’t. You know what I mean?

YES! I know what you mean. Like, should I carry a stun gun around with me and stun any potential terrorists? Should I round up a posse? I need some information, here.
Maybe they are trying to get people to buy more duct tape again. Ah ha! That’s what this is! A clever ploy by the duct tape industry to improve sales!
