The Parrotheads Are Coming!

This weekend Jimmy Buffet plays two shows at Fenway Park. Should be interesting around Fenway this weekend. We’ll see how the tailgating scene is handled.
The most interesting part about these shows is all of the local rock stations getting involved in Parrothead Mania. I have heard on AAF that they are having parties at Avalon/Axis both evening. Then I got an e-mail from FNX (I’m an FNX card holder) about their parties this weekend. What the heck are the Alternative and Heavy Rock stations doing getting involved in this? Aren’t Buffet fans like their ultimate non-fans? Just very confusing to me.

I had the same reaction. I’m not a parrothead, but I think I understand the attraction to his music. FNX and AAF probably haven’t played a cut of buffet in th past 20 years. Why are they on the bandwagon now?
I do like Buffet’s cover of Bruce Cockburn’s “Pacing the Cage.” First, it is lyrically a wonderful song to begin with. Second, Buffet does a nice job with it. And third, the sweet irony of the leader of the parrotheads pacing his cage.

I will be able to hear this from my house. Last year I stood out in the street with my neighbor and drank and danced around to Bruce Springsteen.
I was much more excited about that, sadly.
