The Yankees are Lousy

Sarah, our metroblogging NYC sister, has thrown down the gauntlet…sort of. After bemoaning Red Sox players’ “trash talking” — Ortiz had said that the Yankees’ pitching “isn’t doing very good” — she agreed with him. She says Yankees pitching is “shitty.” She says the Sox are the better team “handily.” So what’s the beef?

First of all, trying that kind of high-school-football intimidation tactic on the winningest franchise in the game is sad. Second of all…you probably won’t beat anything but yourselves, same as you always do.

And then she predicts that the Sox will probably take two of the three games in the series.
I think having the GOP in town earlier this month has left New Yorkers with some of that party’s skewed sense decorem — “How dare you minions question our oligarchy!?!” Ben McGrath teases out this political angle further in this week’s New Yorker (ok, ok…ironically).

You can question the oligarchy all you want, but in Boston’s position, I’m not messing with karma that way. That’s my point. Boston has fielded top-notch teams for several seasons now, and it is frankly a mystery to me why the Yanks have continued to win the division, but historically the Sox tend to beat themselves, so…the oligarchy continues.
I mean, if y’all sweep the rest of the season series, and we meet in the postseason and you beat us, I’ll eat the necessary crow. I just don’t think that’ll happen.

They were just saying that the Yanks are doing sucky lately, which they are. Will the Sox beat the NY for the pennant this year? I’m not getting my hopes up. Will we sweep this weekend? Eight ball says “Yes.”
How about a friendly wager between metroblog towns?

All righty! Shall we bet just on the series outcome (i.e. which team wins), or more exactly on who wins what games? Because I can’t pick the Yanks to sweep, alas.
The loser has to declare, on the blog, that the other team rules. Deal?

    Done.
