Mass digital media
When I stepped onto a university campus in the fall of 2000, I had no idea what I wanted to do with myself. It seems that most liberal arts schools have fairly standardized lists of majors and cirricula. My options were limited to the usual political science, business, education, arts, etc. But oh, to be five years younger! Had I the chance, I might have enrolled in Worcester Polytechnic‘s Computer Game Design and Humanities program. It’s a four-year degree program, “aimed at giving students the technical and creative skills essential in an industry that’s become almost as lucrative — and competitive — as the movie business.”
Such a program is a big step in the migration of university studies to a more interdisciplinary approach, preparing students for more than just their specific careers. It also helps to anchor Massachusetts’ position in the realm of digital media.
