New Jersey and Rental Cars

I’m in the lovely state of New Jersey for some meetings today, and I have a two second rant about rental cars. I asked for a Ford Taurus or similar from a ‘neighborhood’ rental agency (in Dedham). What did they give me instead? A “free upgrade” to a Ford Expedition. My personal car is a Honda Civic - small, easy to park, good on gas - and here I am traveling down 95 in a behemoth. I’m a pretty average sized man, but getting into this monster felt like getting into a moving van! I literally had to use the little footstool ‘bar’ on the outside of the ar to get into the darned thing (not because my pants are too tight after Thanksgiving dinners… no that can’t be it). How can people like these things? Is it just me? I was worried going over the George Washington bridge that I should be in the ‘trucks only’ lane, because, lets face it, this is not a car - its a freakin’ truck! I can perhaps understand how suburbanites and those living in rural areas would like these things, but in a city? How do people find parking? How often do you need gas? Oh well, time to dress up and play businessman…. in my monster rally truck.
