On something of a whim I decided to check out the MBTA’s service alerts and advisories page. When I got there and saw advisories for the green line, I couldn’t help taking a look. I’m glad I did, because I take the C every day. So, my fellow T riders, be prepared. Friday June 27, 20088 starting at 10pm the C trains will stop. They say a shuttle bus will run the whole line in both directions. It looks like it will stop at St. Mary’s, so there will probably be trains to pick us up and drop us off there. This would be a smart move on the MBTA’s part; packing Kenmore would not be a good idea. To give the MBTA even more credit (I can’t believe I just said that), next week all Sox games are away so traffic should be light.

The reason for this service outage is work in Coolidge Corner. Hopefully the workers are fast!

Le Cordon Bleu is opening a location in Cambridge! Although I am far from a professional chef, cooking is a true passion for me. I love to play around in the kitchen with whatever idea happens to come to mind.

For months I’ve explored the recreational offerings of the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, though I haven’t had the chance to attend yet. Honestly, what business have they got making those weekend classes start so early?

For me, this represents a new set of options in the world of culinary education and solidifies New England as a hub for the pursuit of fine cooking. Vermont has Neci, and in April we’ll have Le Cordon Bleu.

I took a look at my watch: 5:05pm. Then I opened my eyes, my ears, and my camera phone, and here’s the scoop.

The first thing I heard was a fireman telling someone there was a small fire and it was under control. When I asked someone if there had actually been a fire I was told, “I can’t talk about it.” Alas, nobody wanted to blab. I was told that above ground service was still running, but that there was nothing coming from Kenmore to us. The police expected things to be running again in ten to fifteen minutes.

True to their word, the police let folks in at 5:15pm. I sniffed the air and looked around trying to detect some sign of fire but saw none as I headed down the tunnel. I did feel an unusual breeze, though, and I soon found out why. When I went down to the outbound platform I found the fans blowing, and the door to the construction site was open with police hanging out nearby. Then I spotted the fire extinguisher. If I had to guess, and again this is just a guess, there was some kind of small fire in the construction site. Nothing in the public area looked at all damaged, and even as one of the first people in I didn’t see or smell any smoke.

How was your ride home?
