The DNC
So Smeg asked what people are doing during the convention – I think I’m going to take the week off, too. I don’t work downtown – I work in the suburbs and take the Mass Pike. I fear that the traffic backed up from closing down the bits of 93 and 95 is going to spill over to the Pike (oh, who I am kidding? It’s definitely going to spill over). Not to mention the random searches on the T and I’m sure just the general inconvenience, pain-in-the-assness of it all. If I can get the week off, I’m cruising down to Martha’s Vineyard.
Speaking of the convention, what do you all think about this random T searches thing? (Here is the MBTA’s official list of guidelines about the wohle thing). I understand they don’t want any terrorist activity happening but surely this has to be some kind of infringement on 4th Amendment rights. Not to mention the HUUUGE backup it’s going to cause for people trying to use public transportation. I mean, sure, increase the police on duty on the T, and have plenty of plainsclothesed men about, but it just seems a bit excessive to me.
I guess if the searches are truly “random” then I wouldn’t have a problem with it. I did hear about people already chosing to refuse. What happens if they do?
They won’t let you on if you refuse. Or, er.. I’m not sure if they’re going to search people before they get on, or during the ride, so I guess they’ll either not let you on or kick you off at the next ride.
