Jeff Buckley Tribute & More

Got nothing to do for Halloween night? Come see some great musical tributes. Head over to Hennessey’s Upstairs to see:

Joe Carson Band as Jeff Buckley
Girls Guns and Glory as Ryan Adams
Cassavettes as Neil Young
28 Degrees Taurus as The Velvet Underground
The Main Drag as Elliot Smith

Doors are at 8:30. I’ve see the guys do the Jeff Buckley Tribute before and it is incredible.

A Whole Lotta Mudhens Going On

There are two big Mudhens related shows going on in the next couple of weeks that you all should be aware of. (You remember the Mudhens right? Great fun Boston band? Well, go figure it out, because you don’t want to miss this :)

This Thursday, the first show features Tom Groleau and Carla Ryder doing an intimate gig starting at 9PM at Hennessy’s Upstairs on Union Street in Fanueil Hall. It will be a very rare performance of original material that they don’t get out and play very often.

The next show should REALLY be fun. It’s the Mudhens Reunion Cruise! After a super successful show at Harper’s Ferry this past March, they are getting together again to have some more fun and this time it’s on the the harbor. The cruise is a week from Saturday (8/11) and kicks off at 8PM. More information and tickets available here!

I think I am starting to give away too much of my upcoming plans here on this blog ;)

Rocco Deluca and The Burden

One of my favorite discoveries of the past year or so has been Rocco Deluca and The Burden. I first heard about them when VH1 showed I Trust You to Kill Me a while back. The real reason I watched it was to see Kiefer Sutherland make an ass out of himself as the commercials seemed to promise he would.

Though that part came true, what I really gained out of this movie was an appreciation for Rocco and his band. I’m not exactly sure what to call what they do except damn good music. Its sort of rock/blues/slide guitar mashed up in to one. I think if you like guys like Jeff Buckley and Chris Whitley, you will really appreciate Rocco.

So, if you like some good guitar based music and have nothing to do this Friday, you should head over to The Paradise and catch an amazing show.

Review : The Police @ Fenway

Hello Boston Metblog readers! This is David from Metroblogging DC, giving a fine hello to my favorite town in the US (don’t tell anybody in DC that) with a review of The Police concert at Fenway on Saturday.

The most remarkable thing about taking in a concert at Fenway, is how many people, once they get ont he field, aren’t looking at the stage, but looking at the rest of the stadium from the vantage point of the field. Honestly, if you’re a Red Sox fan (as I am — remind me why I live in DC again) it’s a once in a lifetime experience to stand (although protected by nylon protective blocks) on the field where so many baseball greats also stood. Then of course, taking notice of the stage, and realizing you’re about to take in one of the greatest rock bands ever, who famously imploded almost 20 years ago.

The Police @ Fenway

Well, it’s the big weekend. The Police hit Fenway Park this weekend. Sadly, it looks like Mother Nature is not going to cooperate. Hopefully we won’t be diving from lightning while listening to “Message In A Bottle” :)

Hope to see you all there!

Damgaard CD Release Party!

Scott Damgaard, an excellent local musician (and friend of mine) is having a release party for his latest CD next Friday, June 1 at Hennessey’s Upstairs. The party runs from 7PM to 9PM.

Should be a fun early evening filled with good music and lots of fun! If you go look you will see all the fun we had last time :)

Rose Hill Drive @ Hennessey’s Upstairs TONIGHT!

Rose Hill Drive, a band that was recently named to Rolling Stone’s 10 Artists to Watch is coming to Hennessey’s Upstairs tonight. Should be a good show for a Tuesday night.

Opening up for them will be:

Doors are at 8 and it’s $8 to get in. It’s a gorgeous day out there, so why not keep the day going and come out and see some good music?

No really, who needs sleep?

So in case going out Sunday is just not enough for you, this Monday, Never in Vegas will be hitting the stage at the Revolution Rock Bar. They start at 11. As they say, Let’s Goooooooooo!

On Wednesday, Johnny D’s will be rocking with Zagnutt and Close To Home. This is an early show, so you should be able to get yourself to bed before midnight!

On Thursday, Moon Boot Lover takes the stage at Fanueil Hall’s hottest location to see live original music Hennessy’s Upstairs.

On Saturday, Sunset is a Battle returns to The Bullfinch Yacht Club with a whole bunch of other great bands.

So, now your week is planned! Go out and see some great live local music!

Who Needs Sleep?

If we didn’t have enough music with Sweep the Leg playing at Hennessy’s on Sundays, well now we have Stained Glass Eye playing next door at Paddy O’s. The best part? Stained Glass Eye is on from 7-11 and Sweep the Leg is on from 10-1:30. This means you can rock out all night and see 2 great Boston bands!

So, don’t let the weekend end and enjoy some rockin’ Sunday nights!

Rock n Roll This Weekend

Two great original bands playing this weekend around town.

Tonight (Friday), you have Electric Sugar at the Basement of the Baseball Tavern with the All Mod Cons and the Illegals. It’s at 1306 Boylston St. Electric Sugar is a hard rock/heavy metal outfit from Boston and are sure to provide a good time.

Tomorrow (Saturday), The Mudhens reunite for a reunion show at Harper’s Ferry in Allston Rock City. If you have been hanging around the Boston music scene long enough you already should know who these guys are :) From what I have heard tickets are going fast, so get yours today! I have heard great things about the opening band, Scamper, so get there early!

Have a great weekend!
